Rita Chatterjee is the Administrator & Principal of Apeejay Schools, Kolkata. An alumnus of Loreto College and a Masters in English from Calcutta University, Ms. Chatterjee has always been passionate about teaching. She joined Apeejay School in 1981 and became the Principal in 1992.

A great believer in hard work and honesty, Ms. Chatterjee has played a defining role in transforming the school into what it is today. With a myriad of interests ranging from literature, current affairs, lifestyle to yoga and swimming, coupled with her need to be happy at whatever she does, Rita Chatterjee brings a lot of positive energy to students and staff of Apeejay School. Ms. Chatterjee has spent more than 30 years as an educator, the broad spectrum of her professional evolution comprising of roles as teacher, administrator and leader.

She is deeply committed to the cause of Child Rights, involving her in issues like child labour and working for improvement in the status of underprivileged children. An interesting dimension in the career of Ms. Chatterjee would be the successful establishment of a school in Bhubaneswar that will span from LKG to Class XII in a sprawling 2 acre campus, all complete with a football field, gymnasium, swimming pool and all modern amenities that today's children ought to be provided with in the growing, technologically advanced scenario of today.

She has been honoured the prestigious Central Board of Secondary Examination (CBSE) Mentor award (academic year 2011-12) for monitoring newly affiliated schools to incorporate and advocate implementation of Continuous and Comprehensive Evaluation (C.C.E.) in schools. She has been the Resource Person for implementation of C.C.E, subject expert and AISSCE question paper moderation for English Core as well as the Nodal City coordinator for CBSE-initiated national level entrance examinations like JEE, CTET, UGC-NET and AIPMT.

She has been the nodal city coordinator for verification of evidence of assessment for formative and summative assignments in schools in the eastern region. She was a panel member of the Central Advisory Board of Education and also a panel member of National University of Education, Planning and Administration for School Leadership.

As a Member Delegate, she had been sent to China by the Indian Government (Ministry of HRD) in collaboration with CBSE and Hanban (Government of China) among 28 Schools selected from all over India. She is the convener and panel member representing the CBSE Board for upgrading/affiliation of new/existing schools. She was honoured with the Merit Award at the 20th Annual National Sahodaya Conference at Amritsar in 2012 for outstanding work in implementation of C.C.E. She is also a member of the school managing committee of four prestigious city Schools.

She has been nominated by CBSE, as member in their Curriculum Formation Committee for Inclusive Education.

Mrs. Chatterjee received Swayam Siddha Award from Rotary Club of Calcutta Metro City at Rotary Sadan, Kolkata on 6th March 2015. This program felicitates women who for their dedication in their chosen vocation in life.
